This is a Lada Signet. Most of you probably know this. But this has an “S” badge in place of the signature Lada sailing boat motif. That is because, this particular car was one of the few Signets that wasn’t actually sold under the Lada brand. This was a Dennis Signet. Yes, a Dennis.

They called the car Dennis. No relation to the bus/fire engine/trash truck manufacturer. It was called Dennis, I would imagine, partially because of the stigma the Lada name had gained in the Commonwealth, and also because the importer that imported a good bit of Ladas into Canada was called the “Peter Dennis Corporation”. Much like if Malcolm Bricklin sold Yugos or Subarus in the USA under the Bricklin marque.

Another odd Lada fact, New Zealand’s Dairy Board actually sold Ladas, as they traded mutton and dairy in exchange for the cars.

And now, you all know two absolutely useless facts about the Lada Signet/2105/2107/Riva/1500/1300/Laika/whatever you call it.
